Temporary Dog Park OPEN!

As newfs noted in the comments for the last post, the Southeast Area Park off-leash area is OPEN for business!

We just got back from a short visit and there were already three other dogs using the park. It is a pretty simple facility, but very fun. The off-leash area is about an acre of grass with trees and bushes fenced off with chain link. There is a secure double-entry to keep your canine pals from running off and a clean-up bag box in case you forget to bring your own bags.

Charlie and Sadie's review is two paws up. All the trees and bushes provided ample opportunities for Charlie (hound mix) to sniff, explore, and mark, and the length of the area is more then enough for Sadie (pharaoh hound mix) to run at full speed. Even with a Chuck-It I could barely throw a ball the entire length of the park. They are looking forward to playing with other dogs as more and more people start coming.

So if you haven't done so yet, go get a permit and start enjoying legal off-leash play in Ann Arbor. And please follow the posted rules and etiquette, it is important for this to get off to a good start so the city realizes how much dog parks have to offer our community.

Wondering why after paying a whole lotta money in my taxes I am asked to pay more for the dog park? Its very frustrating that the bias against dogs remains so great. There is money for all kinds of things at the parks but I do not see anyone asking families to pay extra to use the climbing facilities, or sign waivers regarding liability. There is simply no reason we dog owners should have to pay twice for the very limited facilities available. Especially when there are so many parks and not one of them has been designated as a park where dogs can be off leash in the entire park. I have yet to hear a good reason why we are still second class citizens in this city and why I should be happy with that status.

My husband and I are new dog owners and we are excited to hear about this dog park! Can someone tell us WHERE it is? I've been reading through this blog and cannot find an address. And, as I understand it, you need a permit through the county?
Thanks in advance for your help and we look forward to getting involved!

please update your blog!!! the new A2 parks are OPEN!! yeah. we have waited so long and paying a little license fee will help keep the parks open & clean. we are thrilled.

we will be having a SNOW DOGS meet-up at Swift-run dog park!!

Do you have a snow dog (husky, malamute, samoyed, more) or an active dog who THINKS they are a snow dog?

COME meet other northern breed dog owners and their furry friends. We will be meeting at the new ANN ARBOR dog park at Ellsworth & Platt (near the dump) on the 2nd saturday of every month at 11am. Tell your friends.

Maybe we will find some dogs who are compatible for future sled-pulling this winter? I have done some skijoring (x-country skis and harness for dog) and it is so much fun for me & my dog. I would love to meet some other snow dog owners who want to give it a try!!

in response to theresa's comment here is the link.

I passed by the park on my way to work this morning and finally realized what it was they had been building for so long. I think it's great, went searching for more info, and wound up here. I do have a couple questions though. The pdf linked to in the previous post will not open for me and so I'm wondering if non-residents can get access, and what the fees are?

Oh, and it's already on Google Maps:

Apparently it's called Swift Run Park. That's cute.
